Oct 3, 2021 - Bhagavadgeeta (Sunday AM)

Summary from Mihir ji

Hari Om
We started with chanting of prayers
Harinath ji lead the prayers chanting
Kumar ji mentioned that each of the members should be given the opportunity to chant - this will help in understanding the prayers and the pronunciation
We reviewed the discussions of the last 2 sessions. The BMI and koshas.
We discussed 2 of the koshas
Manomaya kosha - Thought lead to actions. There are degrees of emotions that arise in us. For example anger. Irritation can convert into rage. The intensity of the emotion can increase.
We discussed the wheel of emotions - There are in total 16 emotions with 8 basic pairs and the derivative combinations -
01 - Joy - Sadness
02 - Trust - Disgust
03 - Fear - Anger
04 - Surprise - Anticipation
Question from Arnab - on the panch koshas - I am comparing the Monomaya with the Pranamaya kosha. The Pranamaya koshas is automatic do we have control over the emotions in Manomaya kosha. Somebody who is not aware may not have control The person who is aware is able to perceive the signals of emotions and the body actions that the thoughts and emotions will create. The animal has no control on the actions from emotions. But we as humans are able to be aware and know the actions that the emotions will create in us. Only a person who is aware is able to control the action from emotions.
Sheetu ji added how she is learning to teach to her daughter. To keep it simple to her daughter, if she thinks of a red car in the am, she will see many other red cars. Same case with a big house and with 2 lion statue in front they saw many such houses. Being an observer if we slow down our life, we see and observe, we will be able to find such instances in our day to day life.
Meditation are of 3 different types.
1 Meditation to concentrate - hold the mind on some thought. As we waiver to bring us back to the thought.
2. Buddhist way it to observe the thought but not hold on to the thoughts. As we observe the thoughts the # of thoughts will reduce.
3. Looking at the texture of the thought, what does the thought mean - that is introspection. That is useful.
We have to introspect daily and detect the emotions that come and we have to negate and substitute them.
We discussed the ladder of fall - 6 emotions or enemies - Kama - desire, Krodha - anger, Lobha - greed, Mada -arrogance, Matsariya -jealousy and Moha - delusion are dangerous and we have to be careful. The kama desire is the main gate - which can lead to krodha or lobha. The child may not have power but we as parents may have little bit of power Mada and that may lead to arrogance. That can lead us to Moha (delusion).
Kama can lead to Krodha, Lobha, Mada, Matsariya which can lead to Moha. In the Moha stage it will lead to buddhi nasha which can destroy the individual also. This is mentioned in Bhagwad Gita. Chapter 2 verse 62 and 63. This is the ladder of fall.

Arjunas mind at the beginning of the war had 2 states - Moha delusion and shoka - grief state.
Sunitha ji mentioned how her mother was hard working and always doing her work and not just watching tv or reading magazine. She was finishing her work first and not wasting her time. So we have to be an example for our child as the child see what the parents do.
Sunitha ji asked a question about how to prepare for a meeting at work where we have to present for a large project / budget that can impact many people.
Kumar ji mentioned about 4 moods they are 1) Resentment (Opposing Facts from Past) 2) Acceptance (Accepting Facts from Past) 3) Resignation (Opposing Possibilities in Future) and 4) Ambitious or Optimistic (Accepting possibilities in Future)
In a theater its impromptu and there is no retake if the actor is not having the proper mood and state of mind may not be able to perform. The moods within us is more important than the drama that is external to us in the meeting. We can be rejecting the fact or accept the fact and the possibility of it happening which is optimism.
Ray Dallio's 5 steps to success are - 1) Have clear goals 2) Identify problems that stand in the way of goals 3) Diagnose the root cause of the problem 4) Design plans to get around the problem and 5) Execute the plan and go after the next audacious goal using the 5 steps.
Sanjay ji added - When you are presenting something big or small you should know that you are the only one in the meeting that knows most about what you are presenting. Always go with the mindset that you are going in the meeting to influence the decision and not make the decision.
We did an exercise - The emotions come and how do we train our mind
1. Introspect daily - looking at is in an impartial way. We observe the things as they happened in the entire day. We will then start seeing the various things that could be done different. We can than implement that in a meeting and introspect what people are saying and then engage is good.
2. Detect - diligently what is negative or positive that is happening. The mindfulness comes in
detecting the positive and negative. Breathing helps us to slow down and detect
3. Negate ruthlessly - the negatives. We have to be ruthlessly negating the negative. Start simple and build upon. See things for what they are and be conscious. For example when looking at a
chocolate there can be emotions or urge to eat the chocolate and it may not be healthy.
4. Substitute wisely - If we do not substitute with something bigger and better than that becomes
suppression. For example a fitness regime can substitute the urge to eat the chocolate.
We discussed about daily rituals and making small changes to improve our daily lives. We ended by saying the prayers.
