Oct 3, 2021 - Grade 8 (Sunday PM)

HariOm Parents,

Today we had a very engaging class. We had a couple new students added to our Grade 8 Sunday PM family as well. We extend a warm welcome to our new students. We have captured below what we covered in our class today, any activities they can cover at home and any announcements.

One aspect that we encourage and request from the parents, is to ensure that the children are logging into zoom, with their laptops instead of mobile phones or devices. And confirm that audio & video on that laptop works well. This helps the children participate in all the activities and helps us get some feedback from them realtime. This will help us adjust our teaching so students can find the class interesting and gain the maximum benefit from these sessions.

Our next session will be on Oct 17th. Wish you all a very Happy & Joyful Navratri!!

Weekly Update

Oct 3rd 2021 / 12:45 PM

Today's Activities

  1. Opening prayer

om saha navavatu, saha nau bhunaktu, saha víryam karavavahai,

tejasvinavadhítam-astu ma vidvishavahai, Om shanti, Shanti, Shantih

  1. We had one Bala vihar team coordinator team join and go through some evaluation exercise that results in assigning our students into specific houses. In the coming weeks & months, when the actual events, competition and tasks are held, our Grade 8 students will be leading the younger classes in their respective activities.

  2. We followed this by progressing further with a couple of more lines of Guru Stotram. Please access this document for lyrics and practice at home

  3. Geeta chanting: We revised the verses 39-40 from last class, and proceeded to cover 41-42. For additional practice please feel free to follow this link and practice at home.

  4. We did a recap of the key topics that we discussed in our last class: Dharma (Duty) & Karma (Actions).

  5. We shared a short story of a King who was in search of the following:

    1. When is the right time to start work? "Now"

    2. Who is the most important person? "Anyone in front of you"

    3. What is the most important work? "Serve others"

This example led to a discussion of how one should use their body to perform good actions (karma) and how doing good actions actually makes you feel good and positive about oneself. Children shared their examples like doing exercise everyday, ensuring that you are up to date with your homework, helping with chores at home, and helping a stranger.

  1. In order to ensure that we perform good actions, what are some examples of actions we could avoid to ensure that we always feel good. One of the ways is through avoiding bad speech. We briefly explored avoiding bad words, hard language, lying, complaining, gossiping. Students gave their thoughts on day to day topics that they could watch out for in terms of speech. We requested the students to keep a mental note of their actions by speech in the coming week. They can use this spreadsheet to track the same, and we can review it in class next week

  2. We learnt one new name of our Pujya Gurudev Chinmayanand:

Om Pavakaya Namah!

Salutations to he who purifies

  1. Closing Prayers & Pledge
