Dave, a 9th grader, was the smallest, skinniest kid in the class. He wanted to be a star wrestler and win a letter in his sport. An athlete's letter, awarded to exceptional athletes, is a cloth emblem with the school's insignia.
All his friends made fun of him telling him that he was not meant to be a wrestler! Only his grandmother told him, " you can accomplish anything by hard work and praying".
After school he would lift weights to build strength; he would practice wrestling to improve his technique; he would run miles to improve his stamina. Before the next season, Dave lost his grandmother.
He was very sad and felt cheated because even if he became a wrestler, his grandmother would never come to know of it. Midway through the season, Dave's coach expressed how pleased he was with Dave's progress and awarded him and athletes letter. Dave was happy to receive such an honor but felt sad that his grandmother was not there to share the moment.Just then he was given an envelope that contained a letter from his grandmother he opened the envelope and read the letter in astonishment
Dear Dave,
Congratulations! I knew you would do it! Remember always that you can accomplish anything with hard work and prayer.
Love,
Grandma
